Forums.geocommuns.fr html lang tag

Hi, Apologies for the message in English.
When I first discovered the site I realised it was a treasure trove of information relating to panoramax and osm in general but as a non French speaker I was having to manually select to translate each page.

It looks like the site html contains a html lang=“en-GB” tag by default, which I guess matches the interface but not the contents, this means that firefox and chrome don’t easily recognize the language and offer translation, it has to be manually be selected through the menus which is a chore looking through many pages.
As the site is predominently aimed at french speakers would it not be better to have the site language set to FR then translation would happen by default for us non native speakers.

Thanks

Merci

You’re welcome to write in english too here !

This is strange as the default locale is already set to french in discourse parameters.

It looks like there is a single lang=* tag, and it relates to the localization of Discourse itself, not the message contents. In my case I see <html lang='fr ...

Ah, this may be a discourse “feature” that automatically changes the html lang and interface text based on my browser language..

Discourse uses the browser’s locale to set the user’s locale if the set locale from accept language header site setting is enabled. The locale will be set for anonymous users (and also for new users who register on the site) from their browser’s language header.

The way I solved this was by setting the user interface of this discourse to French. That way Firefox recognizes the whole site as french and will offer to translate.

It’s a bit hacky (and you’ll have to live with the UI itself being french), but for me that works well enough. Of course also only works for people who have an account here and not accountless lurkers
